social distancing: week four

week four is when we all began wearing masks. josh had been sporting this intense looking mask for weeks as our designated shopper for essential items. as the designated matriarch who stays home and dictates what to buy, this was my first time wearing a cloth that covered most of my face and reassured the nerves of anyone who dared come close to my required six-feet-apart bubble.

all i had were bandanas. i picked one that went with my shirt. josh helped me secure it over my nose and tied it behind my hair. we smiled at each other with our eyes. i wore it not to buy groceries or pick up medicine or whatever - just for a walk around my neighborhood. and almost everyone else was wearing them too.

josh made a few diy masks for the boys out of jersey shirts. they didn’t over think it. this is just what we do now. we wear masks when we leave the house. it’s not normal but necessary. repeat. not normal but necessary. and if we all just play along…

at week four the news wasn’t getting better but far worse. and the creepy walk around the hood confirmed it. masks would be that extra layer of clothing i’d have to configure into my outfits for the foreseeable future. no sense in putting it off any longer. i bought a couple of silly masks for the boys and a few that i didn’t immediately hate-at-first-sight for myself. they’d arrive in a few days. until then i rocked my banana. and just tried to rock it.

so another week down. one more weird than the last. but it’s ok. it’s going to be ok. repeat. it’s going to be ok. and my makeshift banana mask is pretty cute.
