memorial day in LA!

greetings from LA! we are still coming down from the high of the recent holiday weekend that included a birthday party for yours truly(!), trips to the park, strolls around the hood, lazy mornings in our pajamas and lots of carbs. it was a weekend to remember for sure. and while it seemed like a lot of our friends and folks went out of town, we loved taking advantage of what our city has to offer. we revisited a few of our favorite haunts and discovered a few new ones. love you so much LA!

now a ridiculous amount of photos as proof!

our first stop of the day was the travel town museum in griffith park. i blogged about this place before but i'll say it again: this place does not disappoint! our boys love it here. and we love watching them go bananas over everything.

personally, before kids i had zero interest in trains. but max + knox's energy and excitement over them is contagious. and the vintage colors of the old cabooses are pretty rad.

i always keep lollis on hand in case of a tantrum emergency. they really came in handy that day. knox had fallen asleep on the way to the museum and was a bit cranky at first. unsurprisingly, candy on a stick did the trick. and don't worry. they are vitamin c lollipops! not so bad, right?!

all aboard!

a few of the trains are open so that you can explore inside, which is, of course, awesome. but a few caveats. it's always hot and stuffy in there. and can be a complete traffic jam of kids and their parents trying to take a million pictures. myself included. you just deal. parenthood is just a hot mess in general amiright?

also, climbing on the trains is not permitted at all... but you know. it happens.

oh hi! lord mama needs a tan.

had to break out my red sandals for the holiday! mine are from madewell years ago, but these are available now!

then a rare moment of calm.

we brought josh's fancy camera so i could practice a bit with photography not on an iphone. while i still really appreciate the ease of using my phone, there is something about a real camera that gets you into the act of capturing a moment. i also noticed different reactions from my little subjects. like in this photo, i crouched down low on the grass to snap some pics of max. at first he smiled shyly. then he started mimicking my moves, my little mirror. it was the sweetest thing.

i did mention how much we love it here, right?! also, throwing this kid in the air is getting hard! i still try to make it look easy.

josh stole this photo of me and gotta admit... i am not mad about it.

and you can't leave without taking a train ride! well, one time we did but the line was coocoopants. our kids have gotten way better at waiting. they finally realize that the payoff is always a good one!

next stop was.... wait for it. a playground. but not just any playground. this one had a zip line! i see us coming back here A LOT.

like most playgrounds on a given day (with zip lines!), it was really crowded. especially so since most of the city had they day off. hoards of my fellow angelenos were there celebrating the holiday, birthdays and whatever else. everyone looked so damn happy.

as we were leaving for our next destination, a few stray balloons danced passed. max asked if he could keep them. as if i could say no?!

the fun continued at our happy place, golden road brewing! because this mama really needed a beer.

knox always doing his own thing. or pole dancing.

so unlike most things i love, i haven't yapped about golden road enough. so i'll do a bit of that now! it is the best place to bring the kiddos to play while you have a pint or two. the enclosed kid area really is a godsend. occasionally they even entertain themselves thanks to the giant connect four, stacking logs and bean toss.

pretty much died over this moment. these two are the CUTEST!

and we never ever leave without taking pictures in the photo booth!

thanks for the memories LA! hope everyone had a great memorial day weekend.

xoxo, sony
