so we made it to pismo beach after a beautiful (also LONG!) trip down the highway 1, and a disastrous pit stop in santa cruz. after idk maybe 6 hours of travel our rinky dink motel felt like a mansion. max + knox immediately made themselves at home, jumping on the bed and sprawling their toys all over the place. i was too delirious to care and really, who could blame them.

we could have easily stayed in seeing how content the boys were just to not be in a car. but we decided to walk into town. because we never stay put for long. and i really needed food and a glass of something with wine or beer in it. every restaurant was kid-friendly though not necessarily vegetarian friendly. this town seems to be known for its chowder and fish + chips. can't imagine why. also, cinnamon rolls because why not add more calories to your diet when on vacation (more on that later). we settled on the cool cat cafe. they had a huge veggie menu + gluten free buns for their gluten free burgers. also crayons and doodle paper for the demons. can i get an amen!

food + beer mission accomplished.

we passed this cinnamon roll joint during the previous night's stroll and said we had to go the next day for breakfast. omg. i'm not really a pastry person but these were pretty special. i recommend the original with glaze + a large cup of joe!

after the sugar run we headed straight to the pier. pismo beach pier is kind of perfect. unlike santa monica pier, it's not a clustercuss of souvenir bs and tourists. it's just the right amount of people, stuff and apparently crazy birds. to say the boys loved it would be the biggest understatement of 2015.

we really lucked out with the weather. the sun was out in full force, happy + bright. it did wonders for my bones still crippled from the northern california chill. i love you sf but you sure can be cold. now i remember why i left!

and one last stop. to the playground of course! and right on the beach. it was a great way to end our trip. and made the long drive home not soooo bad. thanks pismo for having us for a day. you were truly lovely!

and i'm out!
